The Winner of the 17th National Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition is Yusuf Kızılırmak from Le Meridien Hotel Istanbul

“Chaîne des Rôtisseurs” Turkey organized the 17th National Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition on Friday, May 3rd, 2013 in Mutfak Sanatları Akademisi in Istanbul. The first prize winner of the competition, Yusuf Kızılırmak from Le Meridien Hotel Istanbul will represent Turkey among other 25 countries from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia and the Americas in the International Jeunes Chefs Rôtisseurs Competition which will take place on September 6th, 2013 in Istanbul for the third time. The second prize winner was Mehmet Ali Özkan from Four Seasons Hotel Istanbul at Sultanahmet and the third prize winner was Halil Özkonya from Swissôtel Grand Efes Izmir.

Fifteen talented young chefs from various hotels and restaurants around Turkey participated in the competition where the young chefs showed all their talents. Each was given a mystery basket (black box) each containing 55 different ingredients, including 6 mandatory ingredients that they must use in their cooking. Each competitor had approximately four and a half hours, of which the first 30 minutes was spent on deciding what food each competitor will cook and writing of a three course menu; including an appetizer, a main course and a dessert for four persons, with the ingredients that are revealed only at the start of the competition.

The judging panel that was comprised of 11 judges of which 7 were professional chefs and 4 non-professional members of the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Turkey, evaluated and rated each dish to select the first three winners, based on three main criteria; taste, presentational and originally/creativity. This year’s professional judges included Ali Ekber Sarıgül, the Executive Chef of Şans Restaurant; David Shipman, the owner of Dellico Salmon; Elif Şahbaz Denizci from Bilkent University; Rudolf Van Nunen, the Executive Chef of the Marmara Istanbul Hotel; Mark Decker, the Executive Chef of BTA Havalimanları Yiyecek ve İçecek Hizmetleri A.Ş. The non-professional judges included Mohamed Hammam, the CEO of HITCO Trading; Niso Adato, the owner of Şans Restaurant; the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Board Members, Güven Osma and Tuluy Ergörül. The kitchen judges were Nicolas Cartier, the Instructor Chef de Cuisine Yeditepe University and Ali Ünal from Bilkent University. The overall organizer of the competition was the the National Conseiller Culinaire Erich Ruppen, Executive Chef of LSG Sky Chefs Turkey.
















At the Prize Award Ceremony moderated by the Head of Chaîne des Rôtisseurs Turkey and President of the Competition, Mohamed Hammam, all who have contributed to the success of the competition were thanked. Thereafter the recognition of the event sponsors, namely:
